Mastodons Earn Pink Out Win Over Wright State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Four Mastodons finished in double digits and three set career highs for points in Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball's 83-58 win over Wright State on Saturday (Feb. 5) afternoon.
The contest was the 15th annual Pink Out game for the Mastodons. A total of $7,500 was raised for the Vera Bradley Foundation and was presented at halftime. The 'Dons wore pink uniforms for the game. The Mastodons are now 9-6 in Pink Out games.
Amellia Bromenschenkel finished with a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. The 16 points set a new career mark. She was 7-of-12 with a pair of 3-pointers. The sophomore had only one turnover.
A pair of freshmen finished with career highs as Audra Emmerson totaled a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting with three 3-pointers. She also had a career-high seven rebounds and five assists. Fellow freshman Jazzlyn Linbo put together her career day with a new high mark of 12 points while tying a career-best with nine rebounds.
Sylare Starks totaled 13 points to make it four 'Dons in double-digits.
The Mastodons out-scored the Raiders in three of the four quarters, with the both the first and fourth quarters being a 13-point advantage. The 'Dons closed the first on a 17-2 run to take early control of the game. Wright State got back within a possession at 32-29 with 2:55 left in the second quarter. The 'Dons responded by scoring the final eight points of the quarter. It was punctuated by a jumper at the buzzer by Valerie Clark. The closest the Raiders advanced in the second half was seven points. A dominant fourth quarter, that included a 15-3 stretch for the 'Dons, sealed the contest.
Purdue Fort Wayne controlled the area under the basket with 42 points in the paint and a 46-33 rebounding advantage. The Mastodons continued their excellent free throw shooting, finishing 9-of-10 from the stripe. The 'Dons had just 10 turnovers, tying the second-fewest this season.
The 'Dons improve to 7-15 (6-9 Horizon League). Wright State falls to 2-17 (1-13 Horizon). Purdue Fort Wayne steps out of league play on Monday for a contest against Taylor. It will be a 6 p.m. start at the Gates Sports Center.
