Western Michigan Steals Non-League Game From 'Dons

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Amellia Bromenschenkel scored 21 points, but Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball fell to Western Michigan 78-76 in the final moments of Sunday's (Dec. 17) game.
The 'Dons led 76-74 with 40 seconds remaining, but Western Michigan got a layup and a pair of free throws to secure the win. The Mastodons had a pair of looks for the game-winner in the final
Bromenschenkel scored 15 of her 21 points in the first half, which helped Purdue Fort Wayne open up a 17-point lead just before halftime. She finished the game 7-for-13 from the floor in 38 minutes.
The Mastodons were at their best for the first 20 minutes, scoring 45 points in the opening half. They shot 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from the floor before the break.
Central Michigan transfer Sydney Graber had her best game as a Mastodon against her former rivals, recording nine points and a career-high nine rebounds in a career-high 28 minutes.
Kaitlyn Zarycki and Maggie Stutelberg led Western Michigan with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Shayla Sellers (16), Ryin Ott (11) and Audra Emmerson joined Bromenschenkel in double-figures. The 'Dons made 10 3-pointers.
The Mastodons fall to 7-4 while Western Michigan improves to 5-4. The Mastodons will be back in action on Thursday (Dec. 21) when they welcome Aquinas to the Gates Sports Center for their 11 a.m. Fitness Day game. Over 600 students from Fort Wayne Community Schools will be in attendance.
