WASHINGTON, Utah - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team got to see its first look at some spring weather on Monday (Feb. 13) as the Mastodons competed in the Utah Tech Zupas Trailblazer Invitational. The Mastodons shot 327 in round one and the second round was suspended due to darkness.
Arny Dagsdottir shot a 77 in round one and recorded the only eagle in the field in the first 18 holes. The eagle came on the 470-yard fourth, immediately after she had birdied three. She dropped in another birdie on nine to shoot 1-under on the front. She was tied for 12th after 18.
Fellow Icelander Anna Olafsdottir was one stroke back of Dagsdottir with a 78. Olafsdottir was 1-over on the back nine after starting on hole 10 thanks to birdies on 12 and 16. She rattled off five straight pars from 18 to 4. The junior was tied for 17th after round one.
Laura Caetano shot 82, but was even through her first six holes. She birdied hole one after making the turn. Her sister, Luiza Caetano, shot a 90, turning in seven pars. Natalie Papa shot a 97 with a pair of pars and a birdie on hole four.
As a team, the Mastodons are in ninth place in the nine-team field. The second round was only partially played and will be completed tomorrow morning (Tuesday, Feb. 14).
