Weather Dampens Peggy Kirk Invitational For Mastodon WG

ORLANDO, Fla. - A series of rain and lightning delays wreaked havoc at the Peggy Kirk Invitational on Monday (March 13), causing the event to be shortened to a 36-hole event midway through the day. Purdue Fort Wayne finished round one in 12th place after the unfavorable conditions lifted enough to play 18 holes.
Anna Olafsdottir was the Mastodons' best in the opening round, shooting an 80 to possess 30th place. She started her round with two birdies on 13 and 15, but did not card another after the delay. She had a three-hole stretch of pars to start the front nine.
Luiza Caetano started her round with a birdie as well, turning in a three on the 353-yard 14th. She dropped in another birdie on seven, eventually finishing with an 82 to put her in a tie for 38th.
In her first action of the spring season, Taylor Norman was 57th with an opening round of 86. She had three pars in her first four holes, then finished with a birdie and par in the final three.
Arny Dagsdottir (64th - 88) had seven pars while Laura Caetano (66th - 89) had three birdies and three pars. Her birdies came on 10, 16 and 17.
Natalie Papa played as an individual, turning in an 83.
As a team, the Mastodons finished day one in 12th with a 336. In the field of cream of the crop Division II programs, the 'Dons finished ahead of Saint Leo. Lynn, the top-ranked DII team in the country, shot 301 and is first place.
The final round of the Peggy Kirk Invitational will tee off on Tuesday (March 14).
