King Named Coach of the Year, Lilly and Mefford First Team All-Horizon League

INDIANAPOLIS - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf head coach Billy King was named the Horizon League Men's Golf Coach of the Year and student-athletes Kasey Lilly and Hunter Mefford were selected to the All-League First Team, the league announced on Friday (April 28).
King is the first head coach in Mastodon men's golf history to be named a league's Coach of the Year. King led Purdue Fort Wayne to its first Horizon League Championship and first berth to the NCAA Regional. Under his leadership, the Mastodons have the best single-season scoring average in program history at 293.3 strokes per round. He is the third Mastodon head coach to be named Coach of the Year since the Mastodons moved to the Horizon League in 2020, and second in the 2022-23 academic year.
This is the third time that Lilly has been named to the All-Horizon League First Team. He finished as the Horizon League Championship runner-up after a two-hole playoff. He holds the best career average in program history, shooting an average of 72.73. He is also the program leader with 15 top-10s, nine top-5s and two medalist honors. This season, he has four top-10s and two top-5 finishes.
Mefford has steadily improved over his time as a Mastodon, lowering his scoring average each season. This year, he is shooting a career-best 73.10 per round, which was capped off by a third-place finish at the Horizon League Championship. It was one of two top-5 and three top-10 finishes for Mefford this season. This is Mefford's first All-Horizon League honor.
This is the first time in program history that two Mastodons have been named to a league's First Team.
Lilly and Mefford both have one season of eligibility remaining due to the blanket COVID-19 waiver from the NCAA.
King, Lilly, Mefford and the Mastodons will learn the site of their NCAA Regional on Wednesday (May 3) during the Selection Show which will air at 1 p.m. on the Golf Channel. Regional sites in 2023 are Auburn, Alabama; Bath, Michigan; Las Vegas, Nevada; Morgan Hill, California; Norman, Oklahoma; Salem, South Carolina. The NCAA Championship will be in Scottsdale, Arizona.
