Valpo Tops Mastodon Women's Volleyball

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball dropped a three-set match against Valparaiso on Saturday (Sept. 14) 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.
LonDynn Betts was named to the Popcorn Classic All-Tournament Team. She averaged 4.36 digs and 1.00 assists per set.
Valpo jumped out to an 8-3 lead early in set one, a lead which they held for the duration. The Beacons finished the set on a 6-1 run to jump out a set ahead.
The Mastodons returned the favor with an 8-3 start in set two, but the Beacons came back and led 10-9. The Mastodons went up 14-13 behind Nicole Jones' service and got two kills from Ratkai in a 4-0 run. Jones had one of her two aces in that stretch. Valpo finished the set on a 7-1 run.
After the 'Dons led 8-5, Valparaiso rattled off a 10-1 run to take control of the frame. The two teams traded points the rest of the way.
Ratkai and Iris Riegel led the Mastodons with nine kills each. Riegel did so on an efficient .300 hitting. LonDynn Betts had 12 digs, six of which came in set three.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 4-5. Valparaiso improved to 6-3. The Mastodons have one more non-league road trip next week, a Tuesday night (Sept. 17) date with Michigan State at 6 p.m.
