Alana Nelson Selected as Horizon League Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League announced on Monday (Dec. 8) that Alana Nelson of Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball was selected as the Player of the Week.
Nelson led the Horizon League in scoring through the opening week of HL play. She averaged 24.5 points while leading Purdue Fort Wayne to wins at IU Indy and against Wright State at home. She scored 23 points at IU Indy then followed it up with a season-high 26 against the Raiders. Nelson shot 54.8 percent from the floor while adding 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals per game last week.
The graduate student from Springport, Michigan is leading the league in scoring this season at 16.4 points per game and 24.5 points per league game. She is also second in field goal percentage (50.4) and fourth in 3-point percentage (38.5).
This is the former NAIA All-American's first award at the Division I level. She was Player of the week four times at her previous stops.
Nelson and the Mastodons will welcome Horizon League foe Milwaukee to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday (Dec. 10) for Defend the Fort, a doubleheader contest with the men's program. The women will tip at 5 p.m.
