INDIANAPOLIS - Olivia Jang and Hunar Mittal of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team were both selected to the All-Horizon League First Team, the league announced on Thursday (April 24).
Jang and Mittal are the first two Mastodon women's golfers to ever be named to an All-League First Team. The sophomore duo led Purdue Fort Wayne to the second-best team scoring average in program history (310.5), the best league finish (third), and the best winning percentage (.702).
Jang averaged 76.14 strokes per round in her second season, amassing a record of 461-60, both program records. She earned four top-five finishes, including a trio of runners-up at the Islander Classic, Indiana State Invitational and Horizon League Championship. She is the first Mastodon to take second at a league championship, and was named to the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team for her efforts. She shot 229 at the league tournament. This is Jang's second All-League award, as she earned an All-Horizon League Second Team nod as a freshman.
Mittal shot an average of 77.27 this season, improving from a year ago by over one stroke per round. She had three top-five finishes and five top-10s. She was the runner-up at the Hammock Beach Invitational and tied with Jang for second at the Indiana State Invitational. She earned fifth at the Red Flash Invitational, leading the Mastodons to a team victory. Mittal finished 15th at the Horizon League Championship earlier this week.
Purdue Fort Wayne was the only team to get two players on the All-League First Team.
