Purdue Fort Wayne Drops Four-Setter to Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell to Missouri State 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-16, 25-12) on Friday night (Sept. 12).
Riley Rosneck was the star of the first set, as the sophomore recorded 10 kills in the opening frame alone. She finished with a match-high 18 kills. The first set was competitive throughout, with neither team developing more than a two-point lead. The 'Dons had set point at 24-23, but the Bears had a 3-0 run to take the frame.
The second set saw the Mastodons build up a huge lead early, as large as seven after a kill from Trinity Rye to make it 11-4. Missouri State brought it back within four, but never any closer. Rosneck had four more kills, paired with five from Rye, to extend the match.
Missouri State had a 6-0 run to go up 17-12, coasting from there to take set three. The fourth was similar, as the Bears went up 12-4 and set the Mastodons home early.
Rye finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. Rosneck added 14 digs to her 18 kills for a double-double and tallied six blocks. Haiden Means dished out 41 assists and dug out 11 attacks for a double-double of her own. Meg Berkland and Becky Barrett had 15 and 14 digs each. Mya Plemons had seven blocks.
Peyton McKee had 17 kills to lead Missouri State.
The Bears improved to 4-4 while Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 1-7.
The Mastodons are back in action on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 19-20) when they host Bellarmine, Toledo and Mercyhurst for the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational.
