Lara Dommach Takes 11th at Women's Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne's Lara Dommach tied for 11th place at Notre Dame's Women's Fighting Irish Classic on Sunday (Sept. 28).
Dommach shot 77-78-155, just one shot shy of her career-best. In round one, she had five birdies, then followed it up with two more in round two, with nothing worse than a bogey in the afternoon. Dommach played as an individual, shooting the second-best of all players playing as such.
Emily Gottman and Olivia Jang tied for 20th, marking the best among those playing for the Mastodons' team score. Gottman shot 82-76-158, dropping 11 par putts in round one. In the afternoon, she birdied her starting hole, the 13th, then managed three more on the front nine, including back-to-back on one and two. Jang shot 80-78-158 to match Gottman, thanks in large part to three birdies on the front nine of her opening 18. Jang birdied two, six and seven in the morning, then birdied two and 14 in the afternoon.
Louise Ekesall finished in 23rd place with a 78-81-159. The sophomore had birdies on holes two and five and 10 pars in round one, then had 11 pars in round two, including six in a row.
Hunar Mittal took 24th place with an 83-77-160. A birdie on 10 highlighted round one and the second featured a bogey-free even back nine. She also birdied hole four, setting up for 15 pars in round two.
Lillian Gottman took 35th with a score of 84-80-164. She got birdies to go on one and 10 in the morning and hole four in the afternoon. She was 1-over on the front in round two thanks to seven pars and a birdie.
Natalie Papa (86-77-163) and Lillie Cone (82-84-166) also played as individuals, taking 31st and 40th, respectively.
As a team, the Mastodons shot 323-311-634 for fifth place, finishing ahead of Horizon League foes Oakland and IU Indy. Youngstown State was the best from the HL with a 607. Notre Dame won its own event with a 583.
The Mastodons will take the course again next weekend when they visit Port Clinton, Ohio for the Rocket Classic.
