'Dons Move Up Two Spots in Final Round at The Velvet Classic

PADUCAH, Ky. - Thanks to a third-round score of 306, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team moved up two spots on Tuesday (Sept. 15) at The Velvet Classic to take eighth.
Lillian Gottman was the Mastodons' best on Tuesday, turning in a final round of 73. She birdied her second hole of the day, the 132-yard 14th. She put together an even performance on the front nine thanks to a birdie on hole one and pars on seven of the next eight. Gottman wrapped up the event with a three-round total of 235 for a 39th-place finish, moving up 15 spots thanks to the 73.
Emily Gottman shot 75-77-77-229 to be the Mastodons' best scorer of the week. She had three birdies on Tuesday, finding them on holes two, nine and 14. Gottman had a stretch of five holes to start the front nine where she was 1-under thanks to her birdie on hole two. The sophomore took 23rd place.
Hunar Mittal was two strokes back of Emily Gottman with a final round of 76 for a total of 231. Mittal put together a final round that featured a birdie on hole eight and 14 pars. She was even on the front nine, with a bogey on four being the only blemish. Mittal tied for 29th place after moving up eight spots on the leaderboard.
Another stroke back of Mittal, Louise Ekesall turned in an 80 for a total of 232. She was solid on the front nine with a birdie on hole nine and six pars. Ekesall took 35th place.
Amaya Wade wrapped up her first collegiate stroke play event with an 80 for a total of 246. The third round was her best of the week, getting birdies on holes two and 18. She holed out four pars in a row on holes six, seven, eight and nine. Wade tied for 61st.
Lillie Cone played as an individual and also had her best performance of the tournament on Tuesday with a 76. She took 65th place after finding three birdies on the front nine for an even side.
As a group, the Mastodons shot 927. West Florida and Austin Peay tied for the team title at 882.
The Mastodons will take the course again on September 28 at Stonehill's Hill YEAH! event.
