John Peckinpaugh joined the Mastodons as an assistant coach in April 2017. He returned to the program where he once played and served as a graduate assistant.
Peckinpaugh spent three seasons (2014-17) as the head coach at National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member Indiana Tech. He was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Coach of the Year in 2015-16 after a 23-10 campaign which saw the Warriors rank as high as No. 16 in the nation. The Warriors qualified for the NAIA National Tournament thanks to earning an at-large berth. Peckinpaugh finished with a 54-40 record with the Warriors after a second consecutive 20-win season in 2016-17. He coached nine WHAC All-Academic Team selections, six WHAC All-Conference selections, five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, three NAIA All-Americans, three WHAC All-Newcomer recipients, two WHAC All-Defensive Team honorees and one WHAC Newcomer of the Year during his time at Indiana Tech.
Peckinpaugh served as a graduate assistant for the Mastodons in 2013-14, helping the 'Dons to a 25-11 record and a win in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. He was an assistant coach at Indiana Tech in 2012-13.
He played in 108 games for the 'Dons, starting 61, from 2008-12. He helped the 'Dons finish above .500 in 2009-10 and 2010-11, the first two such seasons as a Division I member in program history.
Peckinpaugh, an Indiana native, attended Muncie Central High School in Muncie, where he helped the team earn two state runner-up titles and three NCC conference titles.
