Niecee Nelson was named the 14th head coach of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team on April 18, 2016. She spent 11 years as an assistant coach at San Diego in the West Coast Conference after one year at Purdue Fort Wayne as an assistant coach in 2004-05. She began her coaching career at Wyoming, where she was a graduate assistant for two seasons (2002-04).
Nelson graduated from Concordia in Portland, Oregon in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in education with an emphasis in elementary education, with minors in business marketing and psychology. She earned a master's degree in kinesiology and health with an emphasis in health promotion from Wyoming in 2004.
Niecee has two children: son Sebastian and daughter Skylar. They reside in Fort Wayne.

• Sh'Toya Sanders averaged 1.9 blocks per game for her career, making her the program leader in that category
• Sh'Toya Sanders averaged 8.1 rebounds per game, which is the most by a Mastodon in the Divsion I era
• Team had the highest GPA in the department in the fall semester of 2019 with a 3.59 GPA
• Team had the highest GPA in the department for the 2019-20 school year with a 3.63 GPA
• Riley Ott recorded the second-best scoring average by a freshman in program history in 2019-20 with 10.9 points per game
• Team came back to beat Evansville from down 14 points (12/13/2019), which was the program's largest comeback to win since 2006
