Former Butler University standout Tara Miller is in her second season as assistant coach with the IPFW women’s basketball program.
Miller, who graduated with a degree in organizational and leadership communications, played three seasons at Butler after spending her first semester at Indiana University. In addition to her on-the-court duties and scouting, Miller is also responsible for the team’s academics, travel plans, and community service.
As a senior at Butler, she was one of 54 women’s basketball players in 2008-09 to be invited to participate in the seventh annual Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) So You Want To Be A Coach program, a program to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball.
As a junior at Butler, Miller finished second in NCAA Division I with a 2.84 assist-to-turnover ratio, while leading Division I for 25 days. She twice scored a career-high 17 points, while also twice dishing out a career-high eight assists. She finished fourth in the Horizon League in assists during her sophomore season, averaging 4.0 per game and was seventh in the league in steals (1.6 per game). As a prep player, she was a 2005 Indiana All-Star and was named Third Team All-State as a junior in 2004.
