Hired in July 2008, Steward has turned the Mastodon women’s golf program around, coaching them to a team-best sixth place finish at the 2014 Summit League Championship.
During the 2013-14 campaign, Steward coached IPFW to its first tournament win in program history at the 2014 Bulldog Florida Invitational, along with the program’s first individual medalist in Brenna Sherwood. That season the Mastodons finished with the lowest team stroke average in program history of 329.10. Under Steward’s guidance, Allison Curtis set an all-time program record for lowest season average, 81.43, and Ashton Taft became the first IPFW women’s golfer named to the Summit League All-Tournament Team.
In her time with the program, Steward has coached 12 individual Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars. In addition, her 2012-13 team earned the programs first WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. Her golfers have earned two Summit League Golfer of the Week awards and two Academic All-League honors. Steward’s teams account for four of the top-5 team scores for 18, 36, and 54 holes.
Steward, a 2008 Miami graduate, had six top-ten finishes during the 2007-08 season, including a second place finish at the Qdoba Invitational and a third-place finish at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic. She was the top Hurricane finisher in five of the team's ten matches, and averaged 75.23 strokes per round, the ninth lowest season total in school history. The LPGA has certified her as a Class B Instructor.
Originally from Mystic, Connecticut, Steward played high school golf on the boys' team at Fitch Senior High School. She won the New England High School Girl's Championship, and was named All-State and All-New England during her senior season. Steward started her collegiate career at Boston College, where she averaged 79.62 strokes per round, finishing inside of the top-10 in five of her 11 tournaments.
She transferred to Miami after her opening college season and played her final three collegiate seasons with the Hurricanes. As a sophomore, she cut her freshman-year average by three strokes per round, dropping down to a 76.48 average with four sub-par rounds and one finish inside of the top ten. As a junior her scoring average raised by less than two tenths of a stroke, to 76.67, while equaling her four sub-par round total and finishing in the top ten in four of her nine tournaments. During the aforementioned junior season, she played in the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite, where she recorded two- and three-round scores of 137 and 209, ranking as the lowest in their respective categories in Miami University history.
Steward resides in Fort Wayne, Ind.
