Julie Florio enters her second season at IPFW. She comes to the Mastodons from Hofstra University (N.Y.) where she was an assistant coach for two seasons. Before her stint at Hofstra, Florio coached for a season at Nassau Community College (N.Y.).
Florio recently returned from Chemnitz, Germany where she played for the Fighting Kangaroos volleyball team in the 2nd German National League.
Florio lettered in volleyball at Syracuse University from 1997–2000. She served as the team's cocaptain her senior year. During her career, she played in 420 games, recording 629 kills, 528 digs, 366 blocks, and 109 service aces. Florio ranks 10th all-time at Syracuse in kills, fifth in blocks, and ninth in service aces.
Julie also brings extensive club, camp, and clinic coaching experience to the program. She has taught at Syracuse, Hofstra, Illinois, IPFW, and the World Volleyball Training Center, as well as with the USAV Girls Club, Creole Big Apple, and the Fort Wayne Volleyball Club.
Steve and Julie Florio recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and reside in Fort Wayne.
