Baumgartner was hired as the graduate assistant coach for the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team in 2019.
In his first season with Purdue Fort Wayne, Baumgartner helped lead the Mastodons to their first-ever bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. He coached the squad to an 18-15 record, earning the No. 3 seed in the Summit League Tournament. He helped push the group to a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts in the opening round of the tournament.
Baumgartner graduated from Illinois State in 2014.
