
Mastodons Fall in Opener of UVSC/LaQuinta Invitational

Orem, UT - The IPFW Women's Volleyball team headed out west to the Utah Valley State/LaQuinta Invitational in Orem, Utah for the weekend. The Mastodons dropped their first match of the invite to Oral Roberts, 3-0, on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles defeated the 'Dons 24-30, 27-30, 29-31.
The Mastodons fought hard through games one and two. There were 15 ties and five lead changes, but ORU held strong, taking the first two games.
In game three IPFW started off with a 6-2 advantage before Oral Roberts stepped up and cut the lead to one at 8-7. IPFW would roll again, taking a six point lead at 15-9, but once again ORU came back, tying the game at 20. The 'Dons would tie the game up for the seventh time at 29, but the Golden Eagles would take game three after, 31-29.
Amanda Pfister led the 'Dons with 11 kills and a .348 hitting efficiency. Cynara Martins would come close to double digits with nine kills on the night.
Peachy Jankowski led the defense with 15 digs. Nicole Howell would dig up 11 for IPFW. Jessica Dominiak posted 33 assists in the match.
In the blocking arena, Jessica Miller led the way with eight block assists. Patty Azevedo and Pfister each had four block assists.
The Golden Eagles had three ladies in double figure kills, Ori Zuzic led with 14 while Devic Maja and JoJo Souza each had ten. Thais Parada had 37 assists for the night while Zuzic had four service aces.
The Mastodons (5-5) will face the Weber State Wildcats tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM MT and host Utah Valley State tomorrow night at 7:00 PM MT. IPFW's next home match is the IPFW Invitational on September 22-23. The 'Dons will host Robert Morris, North Florida, South Dakota State and Texas Pan American in the eight match invite.
