
Mastodons Fall in OT to Bulldogs

Asheville, N.C. - The Mastodons faced host UNC Asheville in the championship game of the Carolina First Classic on Saturday night at the Justice Center. IPFW fell to the Bulldogs, 73-69 in overtime in their first loss of the season. Johnna Lewis-Carlisle was named to the All-Tournament Team.
IPFW started off with a 12 point deficit just five minutes into the first half against UNC Asheville. Each time the Mastodons tried to cut into the Bulldogs lead, UNC Asheville answered back, continuing their dominance. By the end of the first half, the 'Dons were down by 11, 37-26.
In the second, a three-pointer by Johnna Lewis-Carlisle would cut the Bulldogs lead down to eight just 24 seconds into the second half. IPFW took their first lead with just under 13 minutes left in the game after Lewis-Carlisle connects for two.
The 'Dons would take a five point lead with 5:37 left in the second. The Bulldogs would use free throws and a tip to tie the game for the third time.
UNC Asheville had a two point lead with 43 seconds left when Lewis-Carlisle once again connected to tie the game up with 25 seconds in the game.
In overtime, the Bulldogs ran out to a five point lead with 2:09 left in OT. The 'Dons cut the lead down to two with three seconds left before the Bulldogs hit one more to finish with a final of 73-69.
Lewis-Carlisle led all scoring with 25 points. She was 3 of 8 from beyond the arc and 6 of 8 from the paint.
Nanyamka Moore chipped in 11 points and two steals. Samantha Edwards led in boards with 10.
For UNC Asheville, Ashton Barton and Amanda Elder hit double-doubles. Barton had 22 points and 11 boards while Elder had 21 points and 11 boards.
The Mastodons will now get ready for the BSU Credit Union Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Ball State University on November 25th and 26th at the John Worthen Arena. IPFW's next home game is December 2nd at 2 pm versus Central Michigan in the Gates Center.
