Fort Wayne, IN-IPFW won its third consecutive game this afternoon at the Memorial Coliseum, with an 82-65 beating of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
It was a well played game by the 'Dons who turned the ball over only five times and shot 51% from the floor.
The Highlanders stayed close in the first half on the strength of junior guard Courcy Magnus' eight points.
IPFW got 10 points from senior forward Tyler Best to hold a five point, 41-36 lead at the break.
In the second half, the 'Dons began to open up the offense and run the floor.
After consecutive fast-break baskets, and a monster slam by junior forward Jaraun Burrows, the Mastodons opened up a double-digit lead at 55-45.
Junior forward DeWitt Scott began to light it up from behind the arc. Scott's triple with just under 10 minutes remaining gave the 'Dons a 14-point lead.
A great shooting night from the foul line (25-28) helped IPFW hold its lead the rest of the way for the 17-point victory.
Scott led a quartet of Mastodons in double-figures with 17 points.
Burrows added 15 points, while junior guard Demetrius Johnson and Best chipped in 14 markers.
Best also had five assists.
Forward Kraig Peters led NJIT (3-14) with 17 points of his own.
The three-game winning streak is the third for IPFW under head coach Dane Fife. IPFW won three-in-a-row last year from January 2-9 (Indiana State, Longwood, Tri-State) and from February 22-March 1 (South Dakota State, North Dakota State, UTPA).
The 'Dons (7-11) will have a week off until their next contest which will be on February 20 at Loyola-Chicago.
