Chicago, IL - Loyola University used a 10-0 run to begin the second half, sending IPFW to its first loss in three-games, 69-53 on Saturday afternoon at the Gentile Center.
The run, coupled with an off-shooting second-half (26.3%), placed the Mastodons at 7-12 on the season.
A crowd of 2,876 saw a very entertaining first half of basketball.
IPFW led most of the early going and took a six-point lead after a pair of jumpers from senior forward Tyler Best.
Loyola chipped away and took its first lead, 18-16, after a jumper by senior guard Majak Kou at the 9:08 mark.
The Ramblers increased their lead to 28-21 on a Kou lay-up with 3:12 left, but 3-pointers from IPFW junior forward DeWitt Scott and sophomore guard Jakari Johnson pulled the 'Dons to within one, 33-32, at the half.
IPFW had done a good job of keeping Loyola's leading scorer, senior Blake Schilb, in check in the first half, but Schilb got loose at the beginning of the second half. He scored the Ramblers' first eight points, part of a 10-0 run, that made it 43-32.
The Mastodons battled back and pulled to with six (46-40) on a lay-in by junior forward Jaraun Burrows with just over 12 minutes remaining.
However, that is as close as they would get as Loyola went on a 14-1 run to put the game out of reach.
Scott led three Mastodons in double figures with 15 points. Burrows chipped in 12 and Best added 11. Best also had seven rebounds and six assists.
Loyola (13-7) registered four players in double-figures with Kou leading the way, and tallying his first career double-double, with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
IPFW will continue its current four game road-swing on Monday night at Valparaiso. The tip is set for 8pm.
