Mastodons Fall at Purdue in Season Opener

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell 7-1 in its regular season opener at Purdue on Sunday (Aug. 16).
Despite Purdue jumping out to a first-half lead, the Mastodons and Boilermakers were even in the second 45. Kailey Hansen found the back of the net off a cleared corner kick from Morgan Gallagher, finishing from just in front of the net to cut into the Boilermakers' lead in the 63rd minute.
Purdue added one more goal in the second half, scoring in the 80th minute to go even with the 'Dons after halftime.
Sam Christle played the second half between the sticks, registering five saves.
Senior Amanda Leonard recorded the Mastodons' first shot on goal in the 58th minute, but her attempt was stopped by the Purdue goalkeeper. Reserves Dalia Sabet and Hailey Hoskins also had a shot each.
The Boilermakers took control early, scoring six goals on 14 shots on goal in the first half. Purdue found the back of the net in the first, 17th, 19th, 20th, 25th and 45th minutes.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 0-1 on the season, while Purdue improves to 1-1.
The Mastodons return home Sunday (Aug. 23) to host Southern Indiana at the Hefner Soccer Complex as part of Family Weekend.
