FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team battled Southern Indiana to a scoreless draw in the Mastodons' home opener on Sunday (Aug 23).

The Screaming Eagles responded, taking three shots and six corners in the final 20 minutes.
Mastodon goalkeeper Sam Christle made two stops in the first half, including a crucial save in the final minutes of the half, to keep the score knotted at 0-0 at the break.
Audriana Rhyner wasted little time taking the first shot of the second half in the 48th minute as the Mastodons took control out of the break. Senior midfielder Kailey Hansen looked towards the back of the net with a shot on goal in the 67th minute, but her attempt was stopped by the Screaming Eagles' goalkeeper.
Despite Southern Indiana holding a 9-5 advantage in shots in the second half, the Mastodons' defense kept the Screaming Eagles off the board for the nil-nil draw.
Purdue Fort Wayne limited Southern Indiana to a season-low three shots on goal. Christle recorded the first shutout of her collegiate career, making three saves. Emersyn Geik and Christle played all 90 minutes, anchoring the back line for the 'Dons.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 0-1-1 on the season, and Southern Indiana sits at 0-2-2. The Mastodons will begin a two-game road trip to close out August, starting at Central Michigan (Aug 27) before a trip to Eastern Illinois (Aug. 30).
