Mastodon WVB Hosts Western Michigan for Matinee Exhibition

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball is back. The Mastodons will host Western Michigan on Friday (Aug. 14) at 1 p.m. on the Arnie Ball Court in an exhibition contest. The two squads will guarantee five sets of play regardless of the result.

Know Your Foe
Western Michigan went 17-16 and 13-5 in the Mid-American Conference last season. The Broncos fell to Toledo in the MAC championship match last season after playing in the NCAA Tournament in 2024. The Broncos' best hitter graduated, but Annalise Patchett, who averaged 2.60 kills per set, is back to lead WMU. Leah Richmond, who was a redshirt-freshman setter last year, is also back after dishing out 9.93 assists per set in her first season of action.
Series History
Purdue Fort Wayne and Western Michigan have played 12 regular season matches since the series' first meeting in 2002. The 'Dons won the last meeting 3-1 in 2021, which saw Purdue Fort Wayne hit just shy of .300.
All-Leaguer
Riley Rosneck earned a spot on the All-Horizon League Second Team a year ago after being the league Freshman of the Year in 2024. In 2025, Rosneck was third in the league with a 4.00 kill per set clip, registering 20 or more kills in seven matches.
New Faces in the Fort
Four freshmen joined the Purdue Fort Wayne roster for this season: Ava Tester (S), Ellie Adams (OH/DS), Anna Cassidy (MB) and Alyssa Gumbel (OH/DS). Gumbel enrolled a semester early after an injury kept her from playing in her senior season at Bellmont.
Hall of Fame Worthy
In January 2026, Mastodon women's volleyball alumna Peachy Jankowski was inducted into the Mastodon Hall of Fame. She led the Mastodons to 95 wins over her four years in Fort Wayne (2004-07), racking up 2,253 digs. The libero was named Independent Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.

The Mastodons will host another open exhibition against Eastern Michigan on August 21 at 2 p.m. in the Gates Sports Center. It will be free to all patrons.
