Dubuque, IA - The 7th ranked IPFW Mastodons men's volleyball team showed no signs of "bus lag", sweeping a feisty Clarke College Crusaders squad on Saturday afternoon at the Kehl Center.
Following a huge come from behind win at Loyola on Friday night, IPFW boarded their bus and drove overnight to Dubuque, Iowa for this afternoon's contest.
The Mastodons topped the Crusaders by the scores of 30-19, 32-30, and 30-16.
Junior outside hitter Brock Ullrich got the 'Dons going in the first set, serving the Mastodons to a 5-0 run and a 10-5 lead.
IPFW put away the opener on a kill from junior middle hitter Josh Stewart.
Clarke put up quite a battle in the second set as junior middle hitter Ed Frederick knocked down six balls and brought the Crusaders to within one point at 29-28.
However, IPFW's outside hitters Ullrich and junior C.J. Macias launched back-to-back kills to seal game two at 32-30.
The Mastodons (4-0, 1-0 MIVA) dominated the third set. Junior Dan McNerney finished off the match with a kill as IPFW remained perfect in 2007.
Macias followed up a 28 kill performance against Loyola with 17 kills against the Crusaders. The All-America hit .520 in the match and had eight digs.
Ullrich also hit in double-figures with 10 kills and fired off three service aces.
Stewart was 9-11 with only one error for a slugging percentage of .727.
Senior setter Colin Lundeen ran the offense efficiently for the 'Dons with 41 assists. He also had a block solo and four block assists.
Frederick led the Crusaders (0-3) with 12 kills.
IPFW returns home to the Gates Sports Center for a weekend series with Stanford. First serve on Friday and Saturday nights is 7pm.
