
'Dons Win Five Game Thriller at Western Illinois

Macomb, IL - IPFW extended their conference win streak to five after defeating the Western Illinois Westerwinds in five games Saturday night. The Mastodons and the Westerwinds traded games with the 'Dons taking the last and most important. IPFW set multiple records; personal, career and team records were set in the five game match.
IPFW defeated Western Illinois, 30-23, 26-30, 30-26, 22-30, 17-15. They improve to 13-8 overall and 7-3 in the Summit League.
Game one started in the Westerwinds favor as they took a 9-5 lead. IPFW tied the game at 12 on an error by WIU, and took a three point lead at 12-15. The 'Dons would continue to hold the lead from there, taking the game, 30-23.
Western Illinois started game two quite the same as game one, taking a 12-9 lead. The Westerwinds would continue to hold the 'Dons off, taking the game, 26-30.
Game three was a tight match from the first serve. IPFW was able to take the advantage at 11-13, only to have WIU tie the game up at 16. A 4-0 run would put IPFW up, 20-16 and they would keep the Westerwinds at bay, 30-26.
The 'Dons went into game four ahead 2-1 in the match and would run out to a 10-7 lead to start game four. The Westerwinds would go on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 10 and the 'Dons and WIU would trade points from there to 15 all. Western Illinois would go on yet another 3-0 run to go ahead 18-15. The Westerwinds would take the game from there, 22-30.
Game five would be a battle, with the teams trading points back and forth with the match tied up at ten. The Westerwinds would take a two point advantage at 11-13, but IPFW would rally back, tying the match at 13. The teams would once again trade points, tying the match again at 15. A service error by WIU would give IPFW the serve and a one point advantage. A kill by Jessica Miller would seal the match, 17-15.
IPFW had four ladies with double-doubles.
Miller led the game in kills with 27, a personal career best.
Cynara Martins had 21 kills and 23 digs while Rebekah Roehm had 19 kills and 15 digs, a personal best.
Mayara Schlindwein knocked down 12 kills and had 10 digs in the five game match.
Jessica Dominiak set a personal best with her double-double. She dished out 75 assists and 16 digs.
Peachy Jankowski dug 29 balls, pushing her over the 2,000 career dig mark to 2,004.
Jamie Schwartz had 17 digs. The Mastodons had 119 digs as a team, breaking the mark they set last year against North Dakota State.
Western Illinois was led by Monique Houston with 27 kills and 10 digs. Sarah Trimpe had 70 assists and 21 digs while Lindsay Muehlbauer had 26 digs.
The Mastodons will be home on October 20th, hosting UMKC in a Summit League conference match. Match time is 7 PM and is at the Gates Sports Center.
