
IPFW Takes Down Jaguars, 3-1

Fort Wayne, IN - The Mastodons hosted in-state and conference rival IUPUI on Saturday night. After going up 2-0 the 'Dons dropped game three but rallied to take game four, 3-1. Four 'Dons finished with double figure kills, two with double-doubles.
IPFW defeated IUPUI, 31-29, 30-25, 24-30, 30-27.
Game one was a battle from the start with neither team able to take a definitive advantage until IUPUI went up by three at 16-19. The Jaguars continued to hold onto the lead until the 'Dons tied the game up at 27 on a service ace by Rebekah Roehm. They would trade points once again and at 29 all the 'Dons would take the next two, 31-29.
Game two would start to look like a copycat of game one with the teams trading points back and forth. IPFW would take a three point lead at 15-12 on a kill by Roehm. IPFW continued to hold the lead and would expand it to seven points at 25-18. From there the 'Dons would hold of the Jags, 30-25.
The Mastodons and Jaguars would trade points again to start game three, with the match tied at eight. From there IUPUI pulled away, taking an eight point lead at 9-15. That lead would prove fruitful for the Jags as they took game three 24-30.
IPFW started game four down 5-9 but rallied back to tie the match at ten. The teams traded points from there, with the 'Dons taking a four point lead at 18-14. IUPUI would fight back, tying the match at 20 and then at 22. A service ace by Jessica Dominiak and then a kill by Mayara Schlindwein would give the 'Dons a two point advantage, 24-22. IPFW would hold off IUPUI from there taking the game 30-27 and the match, 3-1.
Roehm led IPFW on the offense with 20 kills. She added three service aces and eight digs.
Jessica Miller and Cynara Martins each had double-doubles. Miller had 18 kills and 11 digs while Martins had 14 kills and 18 digs.
Schlindwein added 11 kills and seven digs. Dominiak dished out 37 assists and Shannon Reuter had 22 assists.
Peachy Jankowski had 25 digs, taking her career total to 1,964 digs.
IUPUI was led by Carol Newell with 20 kills. Devika Bailey had a triple-double with 11 kills, 13 assists and 18 digs. Ashley Johnson had 14 kills and eight blocks. Two Jaguars posted double-doubles, Hillary Houston (12 kills, 10 digs) and Danielle Goodnight (44 assists, 25 digs).
The Mastodons (11-8, 5-3 Summit League) will now prepare for a two game road trip. The 'Dons will head to UMKC on the 12th and Western Illinois on the 13th. IPFW will then host UMKC on October 20th at 7 PM in the Gates Center.
