
'Dons Clinch Spot in Summit League Championship with Win over IUPUI

Indianapolis, IN - The Mastodons traveled to IUPUI on Sunday to wrap up their regular season schedule. The Jaguars put up a fight, but the 'Dons took the match 3-2. With the win the 'Dons are in the Summit League Championship along with South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Western Illinois.
IPFW defeated IUPUI, 28-30, 30-24, 30-23, 27-30, 15-5.
The Jaguars started the match with a 2-0 lead in game one but that was quickly squashed by the 'Dons when they tied it up at two. IUPUI was able to pull ahead at 10-7, but IPFW wasn't going down without a fight, tying the match at 20 all. At 22-22 the Jags went on a 5-2 run and would hold that lead until the end of the game, 28-30.
Game two started off with a 6-0 run by IUPUI. The Mastodons tied the match up at 9 all and would take a five point lead at 15-10 on a kill by Kylee Hervey.
A kill by Rebekah Roehm would put the 'Dons up by ten, 24-14. IPFW would hold off the Jags, taking game two, 30-24.
The Mastodons started game three on a 7-2 run and would continue to hold the Jags at bay, 16-7. IPFW would dominate game three and going ahead 2-1 in the match, 30-23.
With the win in their sights, the 'Dons started game four with a 6-3 run. IUPUI would bounce back, tying the game at 10 all. The Mastodons would pull ahead by three at 15-12 on a Cynara Martins' service ace.
But IUPUI was fighting back, tying the game again, this time at seventeen. An attack error by the Jags would give IPFW another four point lead, 24-20. IUPUI wasn't done, as they tied the game up again, 24-24. A 6-3 run by the Jaguars would tie the match at 2-2, as they took game four, 27-30.
IPFW went for the kill in game five, running off to a 6-1 lead and just a short time later they were ahead, 10-2. The Jaguars never were able to answer, as IPFW took game five 15-5 and the match, 3-2.
The Mastodons were led by Jessica Miller with 23 kills in 47 attempts with a .319 hitting percentage. She made it a double-double with 14 digs and 5 block assists.
Mayara Schlindwein had 22 kills in the five game match. She added two service aces, five digs, and two each of block solos and assists.
Rebekah Roehm added 17 kills for the 'Dons with three service aces, 14 digs and six total blocks.
Jessica Dominiak and Shannon Reuter split time as the setter for the match. Dominiak posted 35 assists and four total blocks while Reuter dished out 31 assists and three block assists.
Peachy Jankowski dug 31 balls, her third match with 30 plus digs. Kylee Hervey had four block assists.
The Mastodons out-blocked the Jaguars 15 to 7.
IUPUI was led by Devika Bellamy with 21 kills and 13 digs. Carol Newell matched Bellamy on kills with 21. Danielle Goodnight also had a double-double with 57 assists and 15 digs. Chelsea Bastin and Rachel Holmes each had 19 digs.
The Mastodons (19-10, 12-4 Summit League) will now prepare for the Summit League Championship on November 16 and 17. All matches will be played in the Gates Center. On Friday two matches will be played, starting at 5 PM. The championship match will be played at 3 PM on Saturday.
