Brookings, SD - The Mastodons rounded out their trip to the Dakotas in Brookings, South Dakota on Saturday night to face the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State was all over IPFW from start to finish, defeating the 'Dons 103-51.
"They were by far the best team we have played this year." said Chris Paul. "Indiana, Illinois or any MAC team couldn't compare, SDSU was better. We'll be seeing them two times a year for the next few years so we need to improve and step up to the next level."
The Jacks took off at tip-off and never looked back, hitting a 12 point difference at the 16:16 mark, 17-5. From there SDSU kept it up, taking a 24 point lead at half, 49-25.
South Dakota State ran off in the second, scoring 20 points in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 42 point lead, 69-27. The Jacks took their largest lead of the game, 59 points, at the 5:28 mark.
A 12-4 run by the 'Dons to finish the game would cut the difference to 52 points. The Jacks defeated IPFW 103-51.
"They shot and defended very well. SDSU has had three big wins against Independents. They are very good and we need to take this game and learn from it and get ready for Wednesday and get back to .500."
Tina Moen was the only 'Don in double figures. She had 15 points and four boards. She was 6 of 12 from the field and 3 of 4 at the line. In 26 minutes she added two assists, a block and a steal.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle matched Moen on boards, pulling down four.
Ashley Johnson just missed double figures with nine points.
SDSU was led by Megan Vogel with 32 points. Maria Boever connected for 21 points and Jennifer Warkenthien had 12 points.
