Newark, NJ- For the third straight game, IPFW battled back from a half-time deficit to win. On Saturday afternoon, the 'Dons overcame a four-point deficit to top NJIT, 52-47 at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
The 'Dons won despite shooting just 35.4% from the floor. It was another strong defensive effort from IPFW who held NJIT to 33.3% shooting and forced 23 Highlander turnovers.
IPFW trailed most of the contest, but took the lead at the 4:09 mark of the second half on a lay-up by senior forward Tyler Best.
The Mastodons (10-15) finished the game on an 8-0 run.
Best was the only 'Don to score in double digits, with 11.
Senior guard Quintin Carouthers chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
Three other 'Dons, junior guard Demetrius Johnson, junior forward Zeljko Egeric, and sophomore guard Jakari Johnson each added seven points. Egeric pulled down six boards.
NJIT (4-20) was led by Marc Millbourn Swan with 17 points.
The win ties IPFW's record for wins as a Division I program set last year.
The Mastodons will look to break that record when they host Utah Valley State Thursday night at 7:00pm.
