
No. 6 IPFW Falls at No. 8 Ohio State

Columbus, OH- The road has not been kind to the No. 6 IPFW men's volleyball team this weekend. After falling to Ball State last night, IPFW dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 8 Ohio State tonight in Columbus.
The Buckeyes dropped the first set 30-27, but came back to sweep the next three 30-23, 30-27, and 30-22.
A tight first set with 13 ties opened up for IPFW at 24 all, as the Buckeyes committed four errors to give the 'Dons some breathing room. And, on a block by junior setter Graydon Ainsworth and junior opposite Jason Yhost, the Mastodons took the opening game.
In the second set, a service ace by Ohio State's Robbie Klein gave the Buckeyes a 26-20 lead.
IPFW couldn't over come .531 hitting by OSU and dropped the set 30-23.
OSU senior Dan Meske came up huge in game three. Tied at 26, Meske pounded down one of his 19 kills and fired off a service ace to give the Buckeyes a set point. OSU captured game three on a block Dan Mathews and John Albertson.
Ohio State had little trouble in the fourth as the Mastodons hit only .027.
For the match, the Buckeyes out-hit the 'Dons .276 to .181.
Meske, again, led Ohio State (13-1, 4-0 MIVA) with 19 kills. Albertson was a wall in the middle with a solo block and 10 block assists.
IPFW (9-3, 4-3 MIVA) was led by junior C.J. Macias with a match-high 23 kills.
Senior outside hitter Josh Collins chipped in 11 kills and had three service aces.
With the win, Ohio State assumes first place outright in the MIVA.
The loss drops IPFW into a third place tie with Loyola-Chicago, who topped Ball State 3-1 tonight in Muncie.
The Mastodons return to action, stepping out of conference to host #3 UC-Santa Barbara, in a pair of matches this coming weekend at the Gates Center.
