
Mastodons Sweep Crimson Wave

Fort Wayne, IN - Junior center fielder Jared Davis and freshman second baseman Mark Carden helped power IPFW past visiting Calumet College in a double header sweep on Friday afternoon at Mastodon Field.
IPFW took the first game 19-0 and won the night-cap 15-5.
The Mastodons set the tone for the day in inning one of the opener.
The 'Dons pushed 11 run across in the top of the first inning.
In game one, six Mastodons put together multi-hit games.
Junior center fielder Jared Davis was 3-4 with four RBI, including a two-run homer. It was his second blast of the season. Davis also scored a piar of runs.
Freshman designated hitter Shaun VanDriessche went 3-3, and junior first baseman Nick Millspaugh drove in four runs while going 2-5.
IPFW starter Cole Uebelhor tossed four innings of two-hit ball. He combined with freshman reliever Matt Ransbottom for the shutout. Ransbottom closed out the final three frames, also giving up just two hits.
IPFW (6-24) started game two with another double-digit flurry. The Mastodons posted a 10-spot in the first and never looked back.
This time, it was the bat of freshman second baseman Mark Carden that did most of the damage. Carden was 4-5 with five RBI.
VanDriessche, starting at first base, put in another outstanding performance with a 3-5 effort, while driving in a pair.
Senior shortstop Chris Venvertloh, was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.
IPFW starter Donnie Sixt gave up just one run (unearned) over the first four innings for his first win of the season.
The Mastodons will return to action on Tuesday afternoon (4/17), hosting Western Michigan in a double header at 2:00pm.
