
IPFW Defeats Eagles in Four

Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW Mastodons Women's Volleyball team hosted the Eastern Michigan Eagles Tuesday night in the Gates Center. The 'Dons came out fighting, defeating the Eagles, 3-1.
The Mastodons defeated the Eagles, 30-27, 31-29, 27-30, 30-21.
IPFW started off the match taking a four point lead at the 11-7 mark after an attack error by Eastern Michigan. The Eagles slowly started to chip away at the 'Dons lead, tying the match up at 18.
It was a back and forth battle from there, until the 26-24 mark when Jessica Miller scored on a set from Jessica Dominiak. The Eagles tried once again to take the game, but at the 26-26 mark the 'Dons went on a 4-1 run for the game.
Game two was a battle from the first serve. There were 18 ties and eight lead changes throughout the game. The match was tight until 28 all when a 3-1 run would give the 'Dons game two, 31-29.
The Mastodons and Eagles kept the match tight in game three to start. At 12 all the Eagles went on a 7-1 run to take a six point lead, 13-19. IPFW would start to chip away at the Eagles lead, but EMU took game three, 30-27.
IPFW would start off game four with a 7-0 run, before a kill by the Eagles would get them on the board. The Eagles would continue to slowly try to chip away at IPFW's lead. A kill by Taryn Parker would put the 'Dons up by 11 at the 21-10 mark. At 29-17 the Eagles would try for a late surge but it was too little too late as the 'Dons took the match, 30-21.
Miller would lead all with 20 kills on 57 attempts. Defensively she had 14 digs, a block solo and a block assist. She set personal career bests in kills, attempts and digs in the match.
Rebekah Roehm had 15 kills with a .265 hitting percentage. She led in service aces with 3, a season best.
Dominiak had 52 assists. She added six kills, two block solos and four block assists.
Christine Simon also posted a career night with 16 digs and a service ace. Peachy Jankowski had 14 digs and Jamie Schwartz had eleven.
The Eagles were led by Becky Reenders with 12 kills and Katie Bates with 10 kills. Kate Sulewski had 38 assists and Kim Jarzynka had 16 digs.
The Mastodons (1-3) will head to the Clarion Classic hosted by Western Michigan this weekend. On Friday the 'Dons will face Chicago State at 5 pm. Saturday IPFW will face Eastern Kentucky at 1 pm and host Western Michigan at 7 pm.
IPFW will host their 8th IPFW Invitational on September 7-8. The 'Dons will host Chicago State, Lehigh and Lipscomb in the two day event.
