
Cougars No Match for Mastodons

Kalamazoo, MI - The IPFW Mastodons headed off to their second tournament of the season at Western Michigan. IPFW opened up the Clarion Classic with a match against Chicago State. The 'Dons were victorious, defeating the Cougars in three.
The 'Dons defeated the Cougars, 30-13, 30-24, 30-26.
Game one was all 'Dons as they ran off to a 9-2 lead before the Cougars called a timeout. IPFW took a 10 point lead at 20-10 after a kill by Taryn Parker from Jessica Dominiak. The Mastodons took the match 30-13 on a block by Kylee Hervey and Jessica Dominiak.
Game two started off with a battle until the 15-11 mark on a kill by Parker. From there IPFW never looked back, taking game two, 30-24.
The Cougars started to fight in game three, trading points back and forth with the 'Dons. IPFW was able to pull away at the 14-11 mark on a kill by Jordan Staus. Chicago State tried to fight back, but the 'Dons were victorious, 30-26.
The 'Dons were led by Patricia Azevedo with 13 kills at a .333 clip.
Jessica Miller had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. She added four block assists on defense.
Parker had nine kills and five block assists.
Dominiak dished out 31 assists and Peachy Jankowski had 25 digs.
The Cougars were led by Christine Eberhardt with 12 kills and 18 digs. Hanya Minta had 27 assists and 13 digs.
The Mastodons (2-3) will face Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 pm and host Western Michigan at 7 pm.
IPFW will host their 8th IPFW Invitational on September 7 and 8. They will host Chicago State, Lehigh and Lipscomb. The Mastodons are collecting non-perishable food at the invitational. Each fan who donates an item will receive a $2 discount on their ticket for that day.
