Muncie, IN - The IPFW women's soccer team opened the 2007 season on the road this afternoon at Ball State, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Cardinals.
The Cards opened the scoring at the 11:56 mark of the first half on a goal by midfielder Katelyn Alexander, from 18 yards out.
BSU (1-0) got two more first-half tallies, one coming off the foot of forward Sarah Schumacker who gathered in a rebound off of a blast from forward Emily Rein.
Schumacker got her second score of the game in the 64th minute of play. Again it was Rein who sent Schumacker in all alone against IPFW net minder Malinda Holmer.
Trailing 5-0, IPFW got on the board at the 81:50 mark as sophomore forward Danielle Luther fired a shot past BSU keeper Amy Cleeter, making the final, 5-1.

Ball State outshot the Mastodons 27-4.
Rachel Murphy, who played over 74-minutes in goal, got the win while Holmer took the loss.
