Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW women's soccer team got out of the gate fast against Eastern Michigan, on Tuesday night at the Hefner Soccer Complex, but the Eagles scored three unanswered goals to top the 'Dons, 3-1.
IPFW junior forward Danielle Orlandella got the 'Dons on the board at the 2:37 mark of the first half, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Danielle Luther, and chipping a shot over EMU keeper Maggie Manville from about 18 yards out.
The Eagles (2-1-0) tied the contest in the 22nd minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Katie Lozar. Freshman midfielder Stephanie Janssens toed up a corner kick from the left side of the IPFW goal and sent a perfect ball into the Mastodon box. Lozar leaped into the air and drilled a perfect header past IPFW netminder Malinda Holmer.
Eastern Michigan got the eventual game-winner at the 52:49 mark of the second half. Lozar sent a ball ahead to sophomore forward Maggie Christainsen, who put a nice move on Holmer and tapped the ball into the open net.
EMU got an insurance goal at the 73:44 mark. Sophomore forward Ashley Rodrigues sped through the IPFW defense and placed a pass in the middle of the IPFW box. Freshman forward Paige Sheridan looked like she would go left side, but hit a misdirection shot to the far right side of the net, making the final score 3-1.
Holmer finished the match with eight saves for the Mastodons.
Manville faced only the one IPFW shot.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 0-5-0. The Mastodons return to action next Tuesday night, hosting Detroit in a 7:00 p.m. start at Hefner.
