
Azevedo and Schlindwein Lead IPFW Past Cougars

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW started day two of the IPFW Invitational with an early match and win over Chicago State. The 'Dons defeated the Cougars 3-1. Lehigh and Lipscomb had the first match of the day with Lipscomb defeating Lehigh 3-0.
IPFW defeated the Cougars, 30-11, 30-17, 28-30, 30-17.
Game one was all IPFW with the 'Dons taking a five point lead at 9-4. Jamie Schwartz came in to serve and the 'Dons took the next eight points, expanding their lead to 13, 17-4. IPFW defeated the Cougars in game one, 30-11.
IPFW came out swinging in game two, once again racking up a strong lead about halfway through the match, 14-8. The 'Dons continued to keep the Cougars at bay, defeating them in game two, 30-17.
Game three was much closer, with six ties and four lead changes. The 'Dons had a seven point lead at the 18-11 mark before the Cougars began to dig at it, tying the game at 21 all. A short run by the Cougars would put them ahead, taking game three 28-30.
The Mastodons would get back into their groove in game four. With the Cougars ahead 9-10, Patricia Azevedo knocked down a kill and served the next six points to put IPFW ahead, 16-10. From that point it was all IPFW, taking game four, 30-17 and the match.
Azevedo had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. She added two block solos.
Mayara Schlindwein posted 13 kills on 30 swings, hitting a .267. She added two service aces, a block solo and assist.
Taryn Parker also hit double digit kills with 10. She led at the block with four total, one solo and three assists.
Jessica Dominiak and Shannon Reuter split time as the setter. Dominiak posted 26 assists and Reuter had 19 assists.
Peachy Jankowski dug 24 balls in the four game match.
Alexandra Mason led the Cougars with 8 kills. Hanya Minta had 29 assists and 12 digs. Christine Eberhardt also had 12 digs.
The Lady Bison of Lipscomb defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 3-0 (30-11, 30-26, 30-22) in the first match of the invitational.
The Mastodons (5-4) will face the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 7 PM tonight in the Gates Center as the final match of the IPFW Invitational.
