Fort Wayne, IN - After leading by as many as nine in the second half, a severe scoring drought left IPFW on the wrong end of an, 81-62 score against Oral Roberts on Monday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
The Mastodons took a 52-48 lead on a layup by senior forward Natalie Roberts, on a pretty "high-low" feed from senior center Juliane Hohne, at the 9:58 mark.
The 'Dons would suffer a 9:50 scoring lapse until freshman guard Jordan Zuppe's layup with just :08 remaining.
Over that time span, Oral Roberts went on a 33-10 run to win the contest going away.
The Golden Eagles (10-6, 4-1 Summit) and Mastodons (5-11, 3-3 Summit) were locked in a tight ballgame up until that point.
Junior guard Rachel Watman gave ORU a three-point lead with a bucket inside early in the second half.
IPFW senior guard Johnna Lewis-Carlisle knotted the game at 35 with an acrobatic layup while getting fouled. She converted the bonus. That led the 'Dons on a 12-1 run.
Junior guard Tina Moen would hit for two of her eight points on a jumper at the 15:20 mark, and IPFW took their biggest lead of the game at 45-36.
However, Watman stole a pass, went coast-to-coast, made a layup and was fouled in the act. Watman finished off the three-point play, sparking the Golden Eagles.
Junior guard Mariana Camargo and sophomore forward Janae Voelker hit for 16 and 12 points respectively as Oral Roberts pulled away for the win.
Watman did most of the damage for the Golden Eagles, scoring a game-high 25 points.
IPFW was led by Lewis-Carlisle with 15 points. She also had five assists and two steals.
Roberts registered her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
With the loss, IPFW evens its Summit League record at 3-3.
The 'Dons return to action on Saturday afternoon in the front end of a women's/men's doubleheader with Oakland University. Tipoff for the women's contest, at the Memorial Coliseum is 1:00 p.m.
