
Strong First Half Pushes Titans Past Mastodons

Detroit, MI - IPFW wrapped up their three game roadtrip in Detroit on Wednesday night to face the Detroit Titans for a second time this season. A strong first half for the Titans put them ahead by fourteen, 39-25. IPFW would battle in the second, but couldn't make up the first half deficit, falling to the Titans, 74-58.
It took over two minutes before any points were put on the board when Detroit hit a jumper, 2-0. Natalie Roberts answered back, tying the game at two. The Titans pulled ahead by six at the 15:20 mark and Nanyamka Moore cut it in half with a good three pointer, 10-7.
Detroit would again pull ahead, this time by seven, and IPFW answered back with two three-pointers to again cut the lead to three, 18-15 with 11:16 left in the half. The Titans took their first double-digit lead at the 9:52 mark, 25-15. With just over three minutes left in the half, IPFW was down by seventeen, the largest deficit of the half.
Detroit would finish the half ahead by fourteen, 39-25.
The Mastodons would spend the second half trying to make up the deficit from the first. They would cut the lead to nine on two free throws by Johnna Lewis-Carlisle with 16 minutes left. Just a minute later Lewis-Carlisle hit two more free throws to cut the Titan lead to six, 43-37.
Free throws once again helped the 'Dons, as they moved to within three points of the Titans on two by Juliane Höhne, 47-44 with 12:38 left in the game. Detroit would make a strong 11-1 run to take a 13 point lead with 6:45 left in the game.
Detroit would expand their lead and take the game, 74-58.
Lewis-Carlisle posted 15 points, going 7 of 8 from the free throw line. She had three assists and two steals.
Jordan Zuppe scored 12 points and was 7-11 at the line. She added two steals and a block against the Titans.
Samantha Edwards led defensively with nine boards with Moore close behind with seven boards and six points.
The Titans finished with four ladies in double figures, one with a double-double. Sandi Brown led the Titans with 20 points and 10 boards. Zemora Davis had 13 points while Gabi Hungerford and Katy Dunlop each had 11 points.
The Mastodons (4-10, 2-2 Summit) will now prepare for a four game homestand. This weekend they will host Summit League foe Centenary College at 4 PM on Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum in a doubleheader.
IPFW will host Oral Roberts, also a member of the Summit League, on Monday at 7 PM in the Gates Center.
