Macomb, Illinois- After a non-conference match last week against Youngstown State, the IPFW women’s soccer team resumed conference play Friday evening against Western Illinois.
Despite 12 saves between IPFW goaltenders Meagan McLaughlin and Kristen McFadden, the Mastodons were defeated by the Westerwinds 3-0, in Macomb, Illinois. With the loss, the ‘Dons are now 0-3-1 in Summit League play.
The Westerwinds received goals from Ashley Hoch (7:32), Kelsey Pillsbury (27:46), and Lainey Bruhn (68:31). The ‘Dons advanced the ball into Westerwind territory many times in the contest, but failed to find the back of the net. IPFW was outshot by Western Illinois 20-8.
IPFW received shots on goal from Melanie Esposito, who had three; Tara O’Toole, who fired two; and Kateri Till, Kari Gotschall and Alisen Surbey, who each fired one a piece. With her two shots in the match, O’Toole now has 19 shots on the season to lead all ‘Dons.
Next up for the women’s soccer team is a home match against Oakland on Sunday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. ET. This will be the final home match of the season, and it will be Senior Day at Hefner Field, featuring Heather Currie and Danielle Orlandella.
