Fort Wayne, IN - Wrapped up in ice from head to toe, IPFW junior Sachi Janek's smile told the story. Janek fought off an injured back to give IPFW a 4-3 win over Western Kentucky late Saturday night at the Pine Ridge Racquet Club.
Janek's win at No. 3 singles over Brittany Waiz, 6-2, 7-5 gave the Mastodons their fourth point.
Grimacing in pain after every shot, Janek was able to move just well enough in her final set to overcome a 3-5 deficit in the second set.
Janek had teamed up earlier with freshman Amy Recht at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-1 to help the 'Dons seal up the doubles point.
Recht had no trouble at No. 1 singles, shutting out Marija Djuran, 6-0, 6-0.
Two-time defending Summit League Player of the week, Stacy Lish also won at No. 5 singles against Francis Trigg, 6-2, 6-0.
The win was IPFW's third straight, and improves the 'Dons record to, 8-7.
IPFW will have plenty of time to rest and recuperate. They will be off now until April 4 when the travel to Valparaiso to meet the Crusaders.
