
Shutz's Blast Leads Indiana Past IPFW, 4-2

Bloomington, IN - In weather more suited for football than baseball, IPFW and Indiana battled for a second straight day at Sembower Field. IU left fielder Kipp Schutz struck the big blow as the Hoosiers topped the Mastodons, 4-2.
Schutz broke open a close game with a two-run homer in the 5th inning to give the Hoosiers a 4-0 lead.
IU got the three-run inning going with a triple from the bat of center fielder Andrew Means. He would eventually score to make it 2-0, Indiana.
The game remained 4-0 until the top of the 7th inning.
Sophomore second baseman Mark Carden got the 'Dons on the board with an RBI infield single with the bases loaded, scoring designated hitter Ryan Beer, who had reached on an error.
IPFW added another run in the eighth. Center fielder Jared Davis led off the inning with a double to right center field. He would come home on a fielder's choice off the bat of second baseman Jimmy Gilliland.
IU closer Chris Squires came on in the 9th inning, and after giving up a lead off single to left fielder Quentin Brown, shut the Mastodons down for IU's ninth win of the season (9-7).
The win went to Indiana starter, junior Tyler Tufts. He evened his record at 2-2 by going seven complete, striking out five and walking two.
IPFW starter Cole Uebelhor took the loss (0-3). He gave up the four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked one.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 2-13-1. The will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at Butler. Game time is 2;00 p.m.
