
Awards Banquet Highlights Student-Athlete Achievements

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW senior center fielder Jared Davis and junior cross country and track standout Crystina Martinez were name IPFW Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the Mastodons' year-end awards banquet held at the Marriot Marquis Ballroom.
Martinez led IPFW to its first-ever Summit League Championship this past fall in Cross Country. She has set a number of school records and he 3,000 meter Steeplechase time qualified her for the NCAA Mid-East Regional at the University of Arkansas. Martinez was also named to the National All-Academic Team by the National Cross Country/Track & Field Coaches Association, with a GPA of 3.44 in Business.
Davis continues to improve his Major League Baseball draft stock. The 2007 NCAA Division I Independent Newcomer of the Year has made an instant impact in the Summit League. Currently among the leaders in a number of offensive categories, Davis was also named to the prestigious 2008 Wallace Watch list for Division I National Player of the Year. He was the only Summit League Player to make that pre-season list. Davis is also a candidate for ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American Honors with a 3.56 GPA in Business Management/Marketing.
Davis was also named IPFW Senior Male Athlete of the Year, while women's basketball standout Johnna Lewis-Carlisle was tabbed the Senior Female Athlete of the Year.
IPFW freshman guard Ben Botts was selected and the IPFW Male Freshman Athlete of the Year.
Women's tennis Summit League Player of the Year Amy Recht was named the IPFW Female Freshman Athlete of the Year.
