Fort Wayne, IN - Sophomore midfielder Melanie Esposito found the back of the net in the 72nd minute as IPFW topped the University of Indianapolis, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Esposito registered the game's lone score on a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kateri Till at the 71:35 mark. Till's cross was placed perfectly into the box and Esposito redirected it past Greyhounds goal keeper Shae Morris.
The goal was set up by a great run by freshman forward Brittani Roy. Roy got past the UIndy defense and blasted a shot on goal that was stopped by Morris.
Roy nearly gave IPFW a two-goal lead just a minute later, drilling another shot that Morris was just able to get a hand on.
IPFW used a pair of freshman keepers in the win. Kristen McFadden didn't face a shot in the first half, while Meagan McLaughlin turned back all three Greyhound shots she faced in the second half for the win.
Head Coach Margaret Saurin's team will open the 2008 campaign on the road, this Friday, at Illinois State. Match time is set for 4:00pm.
