Women's Golf Swings Into Fall Season

BATAVIA, Ohio - IPFW's women's golf squad started off the fall portion of its season at the University of Cincinnati Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The team finished in 10th over the two-day, 54 hole event with a team total of 976.
Leading the Mastodon's at the Elks Run?Golf Course (par 72, 6,207 yards)?was?senior Alison Rathsman, who finished ( 23)?and shot a final round 81 for a total?score of 239, good for 35th place individually in the 11 team tournament.
Also firing well for IPFW were Jillian Speece (83-81-77), and Nikki LeRose (79-83-79), who both swung for a total score of 241, placing them tied for 36th place.
Abbey Waltke (81-90-84) and Stephanie Hoppes (94-97-95) also represented the 'Dons in the teams opening compeition placing 53rd and 56th respectively.
Assisting her team to first place in the tournament was Iliska Verwey (Georgia State) who shot a first round score of 64 en route to a 54-hole 210. The 64 (-8) is now?The Elks?women's course record and the tournament record. GSU finished the two-day event with a team score of 880. Mary Betancourt (Augusta State) took second place honors (215).
The 11 teams finished in order, Georgia State, Augusta State, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee State, Texas-Pan American, Southern Mississippi, ?Xavier, Bethel, Cincinnati-Black, IPFW, and Memphis.
The women next tee off at the IPFW Fall Classic hosted by Deer Track Golf Course in Auburn, Indiana. The two-day event starts on September 29.
