Men's Golf Finishes Strong at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The IPFW men's golf team wrapped up its second event of the fall season yesterday at the Ball State Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in Muncie, Indiana. The Mastodons finished in 9th place after swinging through 36 holes on day two.
IPFW(898) finished ahead of Butler(899), Wright State(910) and Vincennes(961).
After posting a 298 in the first round of the event, the 'Dons finished three strokes better in the second round after shooting a 295. Tyler Haire fired the third lowest total of the tournament in the second 18 holes, carding a 69(-1), and gave IPFW momentum heading into the final 18 holes.
IPFW senior Patrick Kelley played exceptionally well on the last 18 holes, firing a 69(-1), and finished in 20th overall for medalist honors. After an impressive second round, Tyler Haire carded a third round 76, and finished the event in a tie for 27th. Ryan Olbin finished with a three round total of 230, and placed 54th. Jon Balyeat finished one stroke behind Olbin, and ended in a tie for 57th, with a 231 total.
Eastern Kentucky's Jesse Massie took medalist honors for the event after finishing with a three round total of 205(-5). Massie fired a 66, the tournament's lowest round, in round two. Eastern Kentucky brought home team honors with a 857(+17).
The men's golf team tees off next at the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana. The dates for the event are October 6th and 7th.
