
IPFW Topples Murray State 3-0

Nashville, TN – The IPFW Mastodons won their first match of the 2008 season, topping the Murray State Racers in three sets, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.
Jessica Miller totaled 14 kills, the second straight match she has set a season-best in the statistic while hitting at a .345 percentage. Ashley Dillon added 12 kills, finishing with an attack percentage of .379. Jessica Dominiak dished out 35 assists, while Rebekah Roehm, Jamie Schwartz, and Jessica Miller had 15, 13, and 10 digs, respectively; with Miller’s marking her first double-double of the season. Taryn Parker led the squad with three blocks, with Roehm and Mayara Schlindwein each totaling two.
The ‘Dons never trailed in the opening set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead following a Christine Simon service ace. The Racers fought back, tying the set at 14, before IPFW rattled off six consecutive points, jumping ahead 20-14 before cruising to the 25-18 first-set win.
IPFW opened the second set with a 5-0 run, and led throughout until Murray State rattled off five consecutive points, turning a 18-15 deficit into a 20-18 lead. The ‘Dons responded by scoring seven of the final nine points to claim a 25-22 second-set win.
The Mastodons needed a come-from-behind effort in the third set to win, as Murray State raced ahead by five at 15-10. IPFW finished the match on a hot streak, out-scoring the Racers 15-6 the rest of the way, clinching the three-set win with a 25-21 score.
Murray State was led by Ashley Nenninger who had seven kills, while Alison Mugler had a game-high 19 digs and two service aces.
IPFW next takes to the court on Friday, September 12, when they travel to Springfield, Missouri to compete in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, where they will face off against Missouri State, UALR and Alcorn State.
