Edwardsville, IL - Mastodon keeper Donovan Dowling and his Cougar counterpart Scott Meyer each posted shut-outs, as IPFW and SIU-Edwardsville battled to a 110-minute scoreless tie.
While the two sides combined for an impressive 28 shots, just four of them were on goal. Dowling faced and saved three shots, while Meyer only saw one shot on goal, that coming off the foot of IPFW's Ben Haifley.
The 'Dons' best opportunity to get on the scoreboard came in with five minutes remaining in the match. In a heated dispute, IPFW's Raphael Martinez and Brent Helton were issued yellow cards and Cougar forward Peter Kelly was hit with a red card ejection, putting the 'Dons a man up for the match's final moments. The 'Dons were unable to take advantage of the opportunity, and the defense stood strong on a pair of late corner kick looks for the Cougars to seal the 0-0 tie.
Max Touloute led the Mastodon offense with four shots while Liridon Qafleshi posted three.
The 'Dons are back in action Tuesday (Oct. 20) as the Valparaiso Crusaders will travel to Fort Wayne for a 7 p.m. match up at the Hefner Soccer Complex. Summit League action resumes Sunday Oct. 20th with a 1 p.m. match against the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
