Five Sub-90 Scores Highlight Day One at Butler Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - All five Mastodons shot below 90 on Monday, including an impressive 79 by Nikki LeRose, landing IPFW in 13th place after round one action at the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis.
LeRose carded her 79 with a front-nine 42 and back 37 to finish the opening round at 7. Sophomore Tosha Embry followed LeRose, firing an 84 (40-44) on the 6,197 yard course.
Three freshmen rounded out the IPFW scoring as Alyssa Turney carded a first round 86 (43-43) and Jillian Joyce recovered from a front-nine 47, posting a 40 on the back stretch to close the round one stroke back at 87. Breanna Hatter turned in her best 18-hole score this season with an 89 (43-46) to round out the IPFW five-player lineup.
Amy Funk, making the first start of her collegiate career, shook the nerves off after a 59 on the front nine, carding a 47 on the back to close the round at 106.
Angela Gauck of NAIA Marian University leads the pack, as she fired a 71 (-1) in round one. The Eastern Illinois Panthers lead the team standings as they landed all five players at 80 or below in the opening round.
The 'Dons will kick off second day action tomorrow afternoon from Eagle Creek G.C. in Indianapolis. Just 18 strokes separate the Mastodons from cracking the top ten.
