Toledo, OH – The IPFW Mastodons were held to just 47 points, the programs fewest since the 2008-09 opener against Illinois, making 15-of-53 shots from the field (28.3 percent), and 2-of-14 from long range (.143 percent), falling 61-47 to the Rockets of the University of Toledo in a non-conference match-up Saturday afternoon.
Stephanie Rosado was the lone Mastodon player in double figures in the game, scoring a game-high 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while Anne Boese followed her spectacular performance against Notre Dame with eight points, making 2-of-7 three-point baskets. Sydney Weinert scored seven and pulled down seven rebounds, as both mark new career bests for the freshman. Boese dished out three assists, with Courtney Reed grabbing a trio of steals.
Rosado opened the scoring in the game, before the hot Toledo squad, who came back from a 19-point deficit to upset 20th ranked Dayton in their last game, scored the next nine point to lead by seven at 9-2 with just under 14 minutes left in the opening half, a lead that the Rockets would not lose for the remainder of the game.
The teams traded baskets for the next seven minutes, and Toledo led by 15 at 23-8 following a Lisa Johnson basket with seven minutes left, before the Mastodons ended the half on a 17-9 run, capped by a Boese three-point basket with 40 seconds before halftime, giving IPFW the momentum heading into the locker room trailing by just seven at 32-25.
IPFW and Toledo went back-and-forth to start the second half, before a Weinert lay-in with ten minutes left in the game cut the deficit to five, the skinniest margin since the early minutes. Toledo answered back with an 8-0 run that had the hosts leading by 13 with eight and a half minutes left, and the hosts cruised the rest of the way in the 14-point loss.
Naama Shafir scored a team-leading 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 6-of-11 from the free throw line, as Tanika Mays added 11. Three players pulled down six rebounds, including Shafir, who also dished out eight assists and nabbed four steals.
With the made three-point basket, the Mastodons increased their streak of games with at least one three-point make to 324 games, a steak that is currently the fifth longest active streak in college basketball.
The Mastodons next take to the hardwood on December 20, when the team travels to the East Coast to take on the Stags of Fairfield University, with tip-off slated for 1:00 PM at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
